Who is Maria - part 1
Maria Montessori is a determined woman who overcame the obstacles that blocked the education and career opportunities in Italy. Born on August 31, 1870 in Italy, she was raised in a middle class respected family.
In 1929, Montessori and her son, Mario, established AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) to control and supervise Montessori activites, including training programs throughout the world.
It was headquartered first in Berlin until 1935 and then in Amsterdam until now. The AMI controlled rights to the publication of Montessori's books, the manufacture and sale of the materials and the training courses.
Believing that she had developed a truly global method of education, Montessori travelled the world to promote her method of education.
When Word War II ended, she returned to Europe, arriving in July 1946 in Amsterdam, at the AMI headquarters. She continued to give training courses.
Maria Montessori died on May 6, 1952 in the Netherlands, but her legacy and her works still flourish until now across the world.
